Beta Carotene

How To Get Great Looking Skin Without Tanning

Let’s face it, most people don’t want to hop into a tanning bed or lie in the sun for hours.

You increase your chances of getting skin cancer dramatically just by being in the sun a lot. Overtime, you can develop aged looking skin with many wrinkles and dark spots (photoaging). I’ve met some older women who spent so much time in the sun, that they’re skin could be mistaken for leather.

On top of that, you can’t get a suntan during the winter and fall in colder countries. Your only option would be a tanning bed which costs money.

Most of this is common knowledge, so people simply accept being pale and don’t think they can do anything to change it. Little do they know, there is an alternative to tanning: Beta Carotene.

Here is a picture of a man and woman used in a study; they have three different complexions.

Beta Carotene Skin
On the left is a normal skin tone, while the middle is a sun tan, the right is the result of eating a carotenoid rich diet.

The study led by Dr Ian Stephen at The University of Nottingham, showed that eating a healthy diet rich in fruit and vegetables gives you a more healthy golden glow than the sun. Participants thought the picture on the right looked the healthiest.

People preferred the picture on the right, which is a person who ate a diet rich in carotenoids.

Dr. Stephen said,

“We found that, given the choice between skin colour caused by suntan and skin colour caused by carotenoids, people preferred the carotenoid skin colour, so if you want a healthier and more attractive skin colour, you are better off eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables than lying in the sun.

To get skin like this there are two things you can do:

1. Go the natural route; eat a diet full of fruits and vegetables, preferably a lot of carrots.

2. Take a Beta Carotene Supplement.

I chose to take Beta Carotene as a supplement because it’s difficult to eat enough vegetables to actually get enough Beta Carotene. Beta Carotene has been tested on many people and really does give your skin a healthy glow. People overwhelmingly prefer the skin of people who eat carotenoid rich diets compared to sun tanned or pale skin.

With the supplement form you can take one pill (25000 IUs) a day, and see results.

After about a month of taking it everyday, you will see a big difference in your complexion. If you want to speed up the results, take two pills a day instead of just one. Eating some vegetables in combination with taking a Carotene Supplement would work wonders.

Another study, actually shows that taking Beta Carotene improves and prevents both wrinkles and dark spots caused from the sun. If you already have some sun damage, this might be the supplement for you.

Some men reading this probably think it’s “not manly” to care about their skin.

The reality is this: The majority of successful men take pride in their appearance.

And there’s a lot more to your appearance that just your skin.

But people notice your skin whether your pale, tan, or covered in acne. First impressions matter.

If you have nice skin then you look like a healthy person. A nice complexion is a very attractive quality.

Why wouldn’t you want to look Healthy and Attractive?

And for those of you reading who aren’t caucasian, there is still hope. Because beta carotene produces a yellowish glow to the skin. This yellowish glow is still visible even if you are black, hispanic, asian, etc. One study done on an African population showed they preferred the yellow glow in their skin as well.

  1. Interesting post Ryan, but some questions for you. I just bought the Beta Carotene from the link you gave, I had some money to spare and it was cheap. And I hate being so pale, fucking Irish blood hahaha.

    1. What improvements have you seen from taking it?
    2. How many vegetables would I have to eat to get the same benefit of the beta carotene pill?

    1. 1. I have a slightly yellowish glow to my skin. I’ve been taking it since about the end of August, and I noticed the difference personally in about 3 weeks.

      2. It really depends on the dose of beta carotene you’re talking about. In this case, I believe the equivalent is likely eating 4 to 6 carrots a day.
