I had never heard of Kratom until late 2014, when I was reading a post on GoodLookingLoser.com. Chris from GLL, along with many others gave Kratom phenomenal reviews. Chris also wrote about the Bathmate, which is a great product.
Kratom is great for depression, anxiety, productivity, pain relief, mood enhancement, and a bunch of other things.
It is great for socializing, especially if you’re naturally an introverted person.
Kratom isn’t a supplement for fitness/bodybuilding, it’s more of a lifestyle supplement for becoming a happier, productive, and social person.
What is Kratom?
Kratom or Kratom Mitragyna speciosa, is a special plant in the same family as coffee grown primarily in Southeast Asia where people have used it for decades.
Many southeast asian workers eat kratom leaves to increase their productivity. Kratom is now used by many people across the world for its anxiety relief and mood enhancing properties.
Kratom has a variety of different strains that will affect each person differently.
Some strains are known to make you a social butterfly, while others are known to help you focus if you need to get some work done.
How Does Kratom Work?
Kratom works by affecting the Opioid receptors. It is safe and well-tolerated by many people.
You put Kratom powder in a drink, and then drink it.
Some people like Kratom Teas and other people put it in their coffee (like me), or you can drink it with straight up water if you want.
Each strain of Kratom works differently, and in turn acts on the receptors differently. This is why you need an experimentation period with kratom use to try out each strain.
There are fast, moderate and slow strains. Fast, moderate, and slow refer to how quickly it works and how they make you feel.
A fast strain will generally take effect quickly, like 20-30 minutes and you’ll feel energetic from it. While a slow strain might take a little longer to notice and doesn’t give a great energy boost like fast or moderate strains.
Most people take Kratom by simply drinking by mixing the powder (crushed kratom leaves) into their drinks.
Here is a picture of one of my favorite strains of Kratom.
This 1 oz of Kratom, is from HappyHippoHerbals.com
It is their custom Borneo Blend powder called Happy Hippo 1.
I wrote on the label “Mod” to remind myself it was a moderate strain.
And I wrote “AA” because it lowers approach anxiety.
How Much Do You Need to Take?
The doses for Kratom really depend on the person.
But for a beginner you should start out with a low dose. This is because you don’t know what dose is good for you yet. And you can get the most bang for your buck without running out of kratom too quickly.
The recommended beginner dose is 2 grams. -Most people just start out with half a teaspoon of kratom. Because a full teaspoon is 4.5 grams. (You could also buy an inexpensive food scale for 10$, and weigh out your doses.)
I wouldn’t go lower than 2 grams because you most likely won’t feel any effects.
For mood boosting, energy and focus, most people take between 3-6 grams.
For anxiety and pain relief people usually take between 7-10 grams. (which is a very large dose)
Some guys might do fine taking 4 grams a day while others need to take 6 grams.
And of course, there are the lucky guys who still feel the effects of 2.5 grams who save more money in the long run.
I personally need to take at least 3 grams depending on the strain, to really feel the Kratom working its magic.
My Experience With Kratom
After I read about Kratom on GLL, I knew I had to buy it. I wanted to see if it could really lower anxiety and help me loosen up without having to drink a few beers.
The first two times I took kratom I didn’t feel anything and I wondered what was wrong.
I hadn’t realized yet that Kratom works best on an empty stomach.
I ate a big meal both times before I took it and that was the reason I didn’t real feel the effects.
The Next Morning: I mixed 3 grams of Hyper Hippo into my morning cup of coffee. All I could say was “Wow.” I drank it while I did my morning cardio, and I felt this sense of optimism come over me. All of the sudden I felt inspired in general, and motivated to get through my day.
Kratom doesn’t feel like other drugs. It just lifted my mood, without giving me a racing stimulant effect of something like Adderall.
Hyper Hippo was a fast strain that kicked in quickly and made me feel great. An hour after drinking it, I left my house and went to my morning college classes. I felt this strange need to connect with people and strike up conversations, even people I didn’t care about.
Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t talking to everyone around me, but the days when I would’ve just walked by someone and said nothing, were replaced with me being friendly, and just saying “What’s up.”
Days when I knew I was going to meet up with a girl I liked or meet up with some friends, I would take a few grams of Kratom beforehand to loosen up. But you have to be careful with your dosing because taking too much or too little might make give you a spaced out feeling.
Kratom is similar to alcohol because it lowers your inhibitions, but it doesn’t leave you feeling intoxicated or slurring your words. If you need a few drinks to talk to girls, replace that with a fast strain of Kratom.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Yes there are side effects just like any medication or supplement. The main sides you should be aware of are nausea, dehydration and constipation.
Nausea only happens if you take too much, and dehydration only happens if you don’t drink enough water while supplementing with Kratom. Constipation doesn’t happen to everyone but it can easily be prevented by eating enough fiber in your diet.
For more detailed info on all Kratom side effects, just google search “Kratom Side Effects”.
Where Can I Buy It?
I personally can only recommend buying Kratom from HappyHippoHerbals.com. There are a lot of shady kratom vendors out there. A lot of them don’t sell good quality Kratom, and some of them even put other additives in their products.
Happy Hippo was started by Chris from GLL, because he wanted true quality kratom available for everyone. He couldn’t find a kratom vendor who actually sold good quality kratom, so he decided to start his own Kratom business.
The Kratom from Happy Hippo are blends of different kratom strains, and they have a Newbie Kratom Starter Pack for people new to Kratom interested in sampling a few different strains for a cheap price.
Every strain I got from there was good quality and shipped pretty quickly.
Which Strains from Happy Hippo do I recommend?
I haven’t tried all of them, but I do have 3 Personal Favorites. (There is a link to each strain for convenience.)
1. Elite Elephant: It is a Maeng Da Super Malaysian Strain. Every time I took Elite Elephant, I felt very positive in general about life, kind of like a rush of positivity is coming over you. It is one of the those strains that I loved taking first thing in the morning so I got things done. My morning routine of coffee, cardio, showering, etc, was actually fun. Link to it here.
2. Happy Hippo 1: This Borneo Blend is my go to strain for just about anything. Just like there are well rounded MMA Fighters who can Box, Clinch, Wrestle and still practice great Jiu Jitsu, Happy Hippo 1 is well rounded. I can socialize better than normally, it uplifts my mood, I feel more productive, and my concentration actually is better. I also notice a decent increase in energy even though HH1 is known as a moderate strain. It is great for beating any type of Anxiety. If you’re nervous around women, taken some HH1 and you’ll be set. Link to it here.
3. Hyper Hippo: Is an Elite Maeng Da strain, that is known to be the best Kratom that Thailand has to offer. Hyper Hippo in my opinion is a very fast strain. It gives you a good amount of energy and kicks in pretty quickly. Hyper Hippo is great for productivity because you start thinking a little faster, and don’t get bored doing monotonous things. It was actually the first strain of Kratom I tried and it was definitely worth it. Some people say there are other strains of Kratom better for socializing but I do pretty well with Hyper Hippo, especially when it puts me in such a good mood. Link to it here.
The others I’ve tried from Happy Hippo were White Hippo, Happy Hippo 2, Red Hot Hippo, Pleasant Green Hippo, and Magic Hippo. These strains were also good in their own ways. I noticed a pretty decent effect from all of them except Happy Hippo 2, which makes sense because it’s known as a slower strain.
Is Kratom Legal in Every Country?
Kratom is Legal in the United States, except for Tennessee and Indiana. It is also legal in Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Brazil and a few more countries.
Three countries where Kratom isn’t legal is Australia, New Zealand and Germany.
For the legal status of Kratom in every country, you should make sure it is legal before you decide to purchase it.
Do a quick internet search to make sure.
Final Kratom Tips:
Many things in life are just too good to be true.
Kratom actually lives up to its hype.
But don’t expect to use Kratom and get a “high” from it. Its simply not that type of plant.
Kratom is a life enhancing supplement, you can take it once a week, or everyday. But if you do use it everyday you need to take different strains so your tolerance won’t build up.
If you’re someone who wants to take Kratom every day you need at least 5 strains, preferably 7 or 8 to rotate through the week. Don’t use two different kinds of Kratom in the same day. Stick to one and use it throughout the day. Every 2-4 hours when your Kratom feels like it wore off, you can redose and take another 2-4 grams (or whatever your personal dose is)
Whether you’ve got a presentation at work/school, or just want to go to gym, Kratom can provide you with a more outgoing version of yourself.
