My Results Taking Clenbuterol for Fat Loss

Clen has to get me ripped because all the bodybuilders take it…right?

Not really, but I’ll get to that.

I’ll start at the beginning. 

What is Clenbuterol and How Does it Work?

Clen or Clenbuterol Hydrochloride is classified as a sympathomimetic drug. Sympathomimetic drugs mimic the effects of the hormone epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline). 

Clenbuterol is often prescribed as a bronchodilator and is frequently used by people with serious asthma.

It also has a great thermogenic effect (raises body temp), and this is why people use it for weight loss.

Clen increases blood pressure and makes the heart work harder. This stimulation leads to an increase in body temperature. According to data, it also causes glycogenolysis (the breakdown of glycogen), which is why it helps burn body fat.

By making the body work harder, it increases the metabolism which makes the body burn more calories. In turn, this generally creates an extra 200-500 calories burned per day depending on the dose.

Recommended Dose?

If you search the web you might hear all types of advice for clen protocols. But generally, bodybuilders will take a dose of 100-140 mcg (micrograms) a day.

If you are new to Clen, it is not recommended that you start out with such a high dose. You should start out slow, with only 20 or 40 mcg for the first day or two and see how your body responds. I personally felt little to no effect on such low doses.

I first started feeling the effects of Clen at around 60-80 mcg where I experienced hand shakes, a faster heart rate and an increase in body temperature.

As many people noted, you shouldn’t take Clen for more than 2 weeks in a row. This is because the receptors need time to reset and the Clen won’t be effective if you don’t take a break, and there is no guarantee your receptors will ever be the same.

Some guys take ketotifen and benedryl to “reset” the receptors so the clen will continue to work. This only helps to a degree and I personally would not recommend it because it would mean you would likely run Clen for longer than 2 weeks straight. When you actually take Clen you will not want to take it for two weeks because the side effects are no fun.

Did Clen work for me?

I took Clen on and off for a period of two months. I would take it for a week and then quit because the side effects were too much for me. I would be sitting on my couch with a heart rate through the roof, like I just did an intense workout. I experienced hand shakes that made me look like a drug addict going through withdrawal.

My advice, if you are working a job where people see you, they might notice the shakes and think you’re a drug addict. The worst part of clen side effects were the Muscle Cramps. Clen can cause dehydration and an electrolyte imbalance, so it is important that you hydrate well. Clenbuterol usage leads to a potassium deficiency which leads to muscle cramping.

People say you should take a potassium and taurine supplement along with drinking a lot of water to combat this. I followed this advice and it actually proved to make no difference for me.

I took up to 5 grams of taurine, and some potassium capsules. but when I tried to lift weights the cramps would still be absolutely awful.

I tried to do barbell shrugs with only 135 lbs and I felt like my Traps were tearing off of my neck. The next day I tried to do squats and guess what? my hamstrings felt the exact same way. I couldn’t even do a full squat because of the tight pain.

If you enjoy lifting weights, it will prove to be quite difficult if you are using high doses of Clen. I would suggest that you can try Potassium and Taurine supplements, but they might not work for everyone. Personally I found it a hassle to pop 20 taurine pills throughout the day when they had no effect. But they might work for you. so do whatever you need to do. 

Are there any benefits to Clen use other than fat loss?

Clen is often used to treat asthma and if that’s the case, it should make it easier to breath. I had asthma as a kid and I did notice an increase in my endurance. I didn’t breath heavy at all, and this is why some professional cyclists and runners take Clen before races. It helps them get more oxygen and they don’t tire as quickly in a race.

You’re heart rate will be very high at large doses, so stay away from really intense cardio. Even though I haven’t personally heard of someone getting a heart attack from Clen, it is certainly possible if you push yourself too far.

How do you know if you have legitimate Clenbuterol and it isn’t fake?

If you buy it online or from someone in your gym, you might never know.

But one clear way to tell if it’s real, is from the side effects you experience.

If you have legit Clenbuterol you need to take your temperature. Before you start a Clen cycle, take your temperature in the morning and then while you’re on Clen take it again.

If it’s the real deal you will see a slight increase in body temperature. You should also experience hand shakes and very fast heartbeat. Some of you won’t experience these effects on low doses, so up the dose and see what happens. If none of these things happen even if you’re on doses of 80-100mcg, then obviously you got beat.

How much weight did I lose taking Clen?

Only a few pounds. 

Like an idiot, I ignored the advice to only take it if you already lean. This is because you can still lose weight easily at higher bodyfat percentages.

I took Clen at around 18-19% bodyfat with no visible abs. After only losing a few pounds I realized that Clen really didn’t make a huge difference. Like I always say, a calorie deficit is the most important part to weight loss.

Clen will definitely help you burn a little bit more calories, but it’s not worth the side effects in my opinion.

That being said, if you are already lean maybe (10-12%) bodyfat and want to get even leaner, clen can be beneficial. After I stopped my Clen use, I continued my diet and continued to lose weight just as quickly.

Conclusion:

If you are a bodybuilder, fitness competitor or athlete looking to get extremely lean, then Clen can help you a little bit. Bodybuilders getting ready for a contest use Clen, but they also use a large number of other drugs.

Clen by itself, won’t produce drastic changes in your body.

For your average joe looking to get lean for summer, Clen is not the right solution. 

I’m glad I took Clen for one reason, and that’s because I figured out that there really are no shortcuts to fat loss.

The average person will do just fine with a calorie deficit and some discipline.

  1. Clen got me ripped but the sides sucked like you said. Maybe you should’ve taken more potassium before your workouts so you didn’t get bad cramps.

  2. I don’t know if the whole eating less calories is completely true, I lost 10lbs on clen in 2 weeks and didn’t count calories. But nice review anyway.

    1. Well I highly doubt that was 10lbs of pure fat. And if you lost weight you do realize that you burned more calories than you provided your body through food (aka a calorie deficit). Clen can create a calorie deficit, it can help you burn an extra 200-500 calories during the day and depending on the dose.

  3. Did you notice any weight gain after every 2 weeks of clen? I heard it slows down your metabolism so it is important to decrease your calories even more because it somehow alters your thyroid? Were you still losing weight after the clen, like the week after or did you put on weight?
